Nexus Científico Multidisciplinary Journal en Ingeniería y Tecnología (NCMJIT) recognizes the progressive incorporation of artificial intelligence tools, including generative artificial intelligence systems, large language models, automated analysis tools, writing assistants and digital resources applied to scientific, technological and academic research.
In order to protect scientific integrity, editorial transparency, manuscript originality and the credibility of the academic record, the journal establishes clear guidelines for the ethical, responsible and transparent use of these technologies by authors, reviewers and editors.
The use of artificial intelligence tools does not, under any circumstances, replace human responsibility. Authors, reviewers and members of the editorial team remain fully responsible for the content produced, the data presented, the evaluations carried out and the decisions made throughout all stages of the editorial process.
For authors
Authors may use artificial intelligence tools exclusively for legitimate and limited purposes, such as support in writing, grammar correction, style improvement, assisted translation, formatting adaptation, organization of ideas or enhancement of manuscript clarity. When the use of artificial intelligence exceeds basic editorial assistance, it must be explicitly declared in the manuscript, either in the Acknowledgements section, the Methodology section or through a specific transparency statement.
Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy, coherence, originality and validity of all content generated, corrected or assisted by artificial intelligence tools. The use of these technologies does not exempt authors from responsibility for errors, incorrect data, non-existent references, fabricated statements, relevant omissions, unverifiable results or improper citation practices.
Generative artificial intelligence tools do not meet the criteria for academic authorship and therefore may not be listed as authors or co-authors. Automated systems lack the capacity to assume intellectual, ethical, legal or scientific responsibility for an academic work.
The inclusion of false references, manipulated data, altered images, fabricated results, unverified code, non-reproducible simulations or technical information generated by artificial intelligence without human validation is not permitted. Authors must ensure that all cited sources are real, verifiable and properly referenced. Artificial intelligence tools should not be cited as primary sources of scientific information.
When artificial intelligence is used for data analysis, information processing, image generation, simulations, model development, programming, algorithm design, figure preparation, statistical analysis, process automation or other substantive research procedures, its use must be clearly and thoroughly described in the Methodology section. This statement must provide sufficient information to ensure the transparency, traceability and reproducibility of the study.
Any ethical, legal, technical or copyright-related implications arising from the use of artificial intelligence shall be the sole responsibility of the authors. Deliberate omission of the declaration of artificial intelligence use, as well as inappropriate use that compromises scientific integrity, may be considered a serious breach of editorial ethics and may lead to manuscript rejection, requests for correction, publication of editorial notices, article retraction or other editorial measures.
For reviewers and editors
Reviewers and editors must not use generative artificial intelligence tools to draft, substantially prepare or replace peer review reports, editorial evaluations or publication decisions. This restriction aims to protect manuscript confidentiality, prevent the unauthorized processing of sensitive information and preserve human critical judgment within the editorial process.
Exceptionally, artificial intelligence may be used only as limited support for formal, linguistic or grammatical correction of the reviewer’s or editor’s own comments, provided that confidential information, full manuscripts, unpublished data, images, tables, codes, results or unpublished materials are not uploaded to external systems.
Editorial decisions must be based exclusively on human academic evaluation, supported by disciplinary expertise, professional ethics, critical analysis of the submitted content and the scientific criteria established by the journal. Automated tools must not replace or automate editorial decision-making.
Use of automated tools by the journal
Nexus Científico Multidisciplinary Journal en Ingeniería y Tecnología may use automated tools for administrative, technical and scientific integrity purposes, such as textual similarity detection systems, bibliographic reference verification, metadata review, image analysis, format checking, identification of possible inconsistencies or support in internal editorial processes.
These tools operate under human supervision, and their results are evaluated by the editorial team. The use of such technologies is complementary and does not replace editorial judgment. Any observation arising from these controls will be analyzed contextually and on a case-by-case basis, guaranteeing the authors’ right to submit clarifications, corrections or responses when appropriate.
Alignment with International Standards
This policy is aligned with international guidelines on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic publishing, including the principles promoted by Elsevier regarding transparency, human responsibility, authorship integrity and responsible disclosure of artificial intelligence use in scientific research.
