Abstract

Introduction: Psychosocial risks represent one of the main challenges for occupational health in police institutions due to permanent exposure to stress, operational pressure, and high job demands. These conditions may affect officers’ physical and emotional well-being, as well as their job performance.

Methodology: The study adopted a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional design. The population consisted of police officers from the Community Surveillance Unit of Quevedo, Ecuador. Data were collected using the Psychosocial Risk Assessment Questionnaire developed by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Labor. Instrument reliability was verified through Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, while the relationship between variables was analyzed using the Chi-square test.

Results: The findings revealed the presence of psychosocial risks mainly associated with workload and work pace, physical and emotional recovery, work-family interference, and self-perceived health. Furthermore, the instrument showed very high reliability (α = 0.818). The Chi-square test confirmed a statistically significant relationship between psychosocial risks and police officers’ job performance.

Conclusions: Psychosocial risks were found to influence police officers’ job performance, affecting occupational well-being and institutional efficiency. The findings support the implementation of prevention and intervention strategies aimed at strengthening mental health, improving working conditions, and promoting healthier organizational environments.
