Abstract

In Latin America, science, technology, and innovation must be redefined from an autonomous and critical perspective, aligned with the region’s social, cultural, and economic contexts. Despite notable progress, significant challenges remain, such as reliance on external evaluation models, limited funding for priority projects, and insufficient conditions for the dissemination and application of research outcomes. Strengthening public policies that ensure greater autonomy in financing and encourage collaboration between academic and community institutions is therefore essential. This approach requires recognizing local knowledge alongside technological advancements, fostering an inclusive integration of science into social life. In doing so, the region could generate innovations that not only enhance academic development but also improve collective well-being.
