Abstract

The process of digitalization in Ecuadorian higher education, particularly in institutions with economic constraints such as the Universidad Luis Vargas Torres, represented a major challenge during the health emergency caused by COVID-19. The situation compelled both faculty and students to make an accelerated transition toward the use of technological resources and active pedagogical strategies in order to ensure academic continuity. This scenario revealed the structural limitations of the traditional educational model and highlighted the urgent need to reconsider quality standards in virtual learning environments. Nevertheless, the experience also fostered the development of innovative practices, the strengthening of institutional commitment, and the formulation of policies aimed at consolidating a digital education characterized by equity, sustainability, and social relevance.
