Abstract

Interest in higher education has grown significantly in the specialized academic literature. However, most existing research focuses primarily on descriptive and evaluative aspects, without linking its results to theoretical frameworks of sociology. This paper examines the theoretical and epistemological perspectives that social systems theory offers for the analysis of higher education, highlighting the importance of differentiating levels of systemic formation such as interaction, organization, and society, as well as the segmentation of specialized partial systems.
