Abstract

Juvenile delinquency in school contexts constitutes a complex social phenomenon that cannot be understood through linear or reductionist explanations, but rather through the dynamic interaction of individual, familial, school, and community factors. This study aims to analyse, from a qualitative perspective, the multifactorial elements that influence the commission of behaviours classified as offences among secondary school adolescents in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. Through the use of semi-structured interviews, the perceptions, experiences, and meanings constructed by the adolescents themselves regarding their behaviour and the conditions of their immediate environment were explored. The findings demonstrate that juvenile delinquency does not emerge spontaneously; instead, it develops progressively within contexts characterised by family conflict, weakened emotional bonds, limited parental supervision, institutional shortcomings within the school setting, and strong peer influence. Furthermore, it is identified that the intensive use of social media amplifies dynamics of violence and contributes to the reproduction of risk behaviours. Notably, there is also evidence of a tendency towards the normalisation of certain antisocial practices within everyday school life, reflecting processes of habituation to violence.
